Lisa Clayton - Alone - Around The World
Переглядів 73 тис.Рік тому
Found this documentary on an old video tape, remember them...lol. It's the story of Lisa Clayton who sailed solo around the world in 1994/95. If I remember correctly there was a bit of controversy at the time of did she or didn't she sail on her own.

I found an old video tape with this program on it & thought it might be of interest to someone. Sorry the quality is not great. It tells the story of Peter Blake, Robin Knox-Johnston & crew aboard the catamaran"ENZA" as they circumnavigate the world between January 16th to April 1st 1994.

Real sailing and before foilers. They were hauling ass at 22 knots for 6 days.

Spag - Bowl for everyone
Excellent film pour une super expérience. Félicitation et merci pour le partage.
What am Amazing brave woman
Capsized seven times and two timer 360⁰. Holy moly. Poor woman.
Sailing aroumd the world 97% being able to afford the boat, expenses and supplies and 3 % skill easily picked up along the way
Loved every minute. What an amazing lady. Can’t find anything else about her online so will read her book. Any suggestions on what sailing documentary to watch next? Preferably solo + self recorded videos like this. So brave
Laura Dekker - "Maidentrip".
Beautiful sailing episode filming, thanks for sharing. What a beautiful sailing experience and stories around the world ⛵️ 🌎
Literally feels like back in high school when the sub-teacher would roll out the portable TV and put on some random video that you would end up getting into..... nice
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Yes it was Kay Cottee that was the first woman to sail around the world. Her yacht is on display at Sydney’s Power House Museum Australia. She planned for every eventuality and even took a mast repair kit and her mast did sustain severe damage apparently at one stage. Things even back in the 1980s we’re not as high tech as they are now. Things have come such a long way but sailing still involves all the effort and knowledge. These swinging stoves and battery chargers you hang over the back just were not around in the 1980s. And as pointed out here it takes a boat and some funds. Not many women solo sail anywhere much and there are allegations women are often harassed. I can’t imagine having to face pirates as a woman but it is great many women are sailing. Let us hope there are more.
I was lucky to do a little bit of sailing back in those days. There was a spirit of the unknown which gave a wonderful sense of adventure that has been somewhat overtaken by technology. They were wonderful days.
The high pitch ringing has me running away from this video!
This is amazing. Thank you for sharing it. I had read Cam Lewis's book about *Commodore Explorer* setting the previous record, which had a focus on the French team, so it's cool to have this focus on the British/NZ team as a perspective flip.
gutsy
Outstanding Lisa well done
𝓅𝓇o𝓂o𝓈𝓂
it appears she didn't even emblazen her ship with ads for her instagram or youtube as so many others seem to do.
Very inappropriate musical accompaniment. Absolutely BIZARRE.
It's about real sailing, not a Holywood fantasy 😅😂😮
My sister and her husband went to San Diego for the Americas Cup challenge in 1995. She said ENZA was there and got into trouble with the Harbour Police quite often, because, even with a bare mast, it was exceeding the harbour speed limit.
This is not a joke to do as with the Vende Globe also. Dangerous.
Great upload, thanks for that one! Impressive sailing, too, of course.
Seeing Curlylocks chatting the phone like home ... and Happybuddy at the helm of his plastic megatoy .. makes me think of better days . and men like Monsieur Moitessier ☮️🌼
Fantastic footage of a tremendous accomplishment. What a woman; what a sailor!
Yes, but I notice that there is no footage from rounding the horn, which I expected as much for verification purposes, as for point of interest footage.
👍👌🙏💪💪💪💪
Hat off to this outrageously brave woman.
Courage, respect for the sea, and advanced seamanship. What a sailor.
Appreciated thanks!
I had a 20 minute bath all alone last night. I pretended i was these guys in rough weather.
Thank goodness she proved to be useless within the first few seconds of the video. Saved me a lot of time
Useless???

Tos ser 😊
Just to clarify, Lisa Clayton was the first British woman to sail single-handed non-stop around the world in 1995. Kaye Cottee was the first woman from any country, in 1988, to sale single-handed non-stop around the world. Both women did a circumnavigation of the world via the five Great Capes. It was a requirement to do the five Capes back then but since then the World Sailing Speed Record Council allows only four Great Capes to constitute sailing around the world. Sailing around the world can be a shorter distance than circumnavigating the world.
Wow what a team work and seamanship! ...and pleasantly amazed what a great team players Peter Blake and Robin Knox-Johnston are!
Respect Lisa . You have proven you can do it.
3 months, brand new boat, rusting everywhere already. I'll stick to my lovely plastic boats. I know steel would give great peace of mind at sea, but all that rust would drive me bonkers day and night.
Yeah I noticed the rust and thought similar
Rust never sleeps - sailors say. But, if you ever hit anything hard (or semi hard, like a whale), you'd be damn glad you were in a steel boat. Great choice of a boat for the kind of journey this lady departed on.
wow so lucky she wasn't dismasted when being rolled 7 times 2 completely
Top respect, what a girl.
I know nothing about sailing. Why is she pulling a long rope in the water behind her? I've seen this before. TIA.
Line has small propeller attached to a generator for electrical power
A long line trailing behind the boat helps as a drag anchor to slow it down and keep it going in the right direction
@@bojangles8837 Thank you.
@@robertherrmann4823 Thank you.
@@robertherrmann4823 Wrong
She must have used a terrible paint system. There so much rust on a new hull? You don’t see that these days on a well kept steel yacht, Even one that’s constantly cruising.
Seems they put emphasis on 90 % preparation; 10% on terrible noxious steel cover. What a balance of temper & technical patience !
Some folks are only happy when they find some minor pint to whine about 😂😅😮
A story of a hero. What a shame she no longer among us. RIP and your story/dream will be there forever.
Has she passed away????
She is alive
Does Peter Harding have family in Norway? Hans Harding owns a lifeboat yard in Norway. Lifeboats need to meet pretty harsh qualifications, try a drop into the ocean.
WOW, what an achievement, incredible. I was touched to tears, by the welcome home scene, her parents were really suffering and so relieved. I am a dad to, and I know bout the "must let go - want to keep" struggle parents go through. ;-) From a sailor perspective, I know now where to put my 40nm miles offshore ocean adventures - but I am gettin there, some day. ;-) check my sailing vids at ua-cam.com/channels/sQCyb6cMLLwIxEQgcBtYGw.html

Geez, you can't even normalize the audio between speakers? Wow.
10:33 Christ, what kind of out-of-touch geezer of a sound editor was allowed, in 1995, to put 60s bloody surf music -already 30 years out of date- onto this footage...and believe it or not, the choice of music gets even bloody worse at 24:55...he must have thought he was being hip...it's just appalling. Had she been male, no one would have questioned her feat, but the Misogynist Establishment Sailing Geezers got their noses out of joint that she was successful. Damned impressive woman, must do further reading on her.
Whatt?? They crack heads on any men attempts at this all the time and have caught cheaters. Not to mention A WOMAN had already made the claim from Australia years ahead of her. So who's the sexist again?? Stupid comments like your's all over the web anymore.
That is almost 30 years ago! How does this compare to today? Best thing is, cats are more stable upside down, than while sailing. Question; how many days do ocean going foiling vessels need? Has 74 days been shredded to only 37 days, yet? And why aren't sails getting supersonic?! The moped kids (people who love burning their own carbon footprint) have joined the airforce and they do almost 3000 miles an hour, don't they? When is wind power gonna get out of the diapers fase? Can't we take the jet streams to sea level? That might help a bit, maybe aim at sailing 500 knots, first?
what did they rehydrate the dry food with? lite water haha
Blake was shot and killed by pirates while monitoring environment change on the Amazon River on 5 December 2001. He was 53 years old.... LEGEND!
Well... it might not have changed her, but it sure as heck would have changed ME!
